Genius Hour 1.5

This week I used Duolingo to start learning some new vocabulary. I decided to work on the lessons with vocab involving travel. As I did with the last vocabulary that I started to learn, I took notes on words that I didn't know or words that I thought would be useful. I am disappointed in myself because I forgot to bring headphones on the day that I was using the actual Duolingo app so I was not able to hear any of the pronunciations.
I tended to think of the words with a French accent which I do not think was very helpful. However, I did realize that the words for bus in French and Spanish are very similar, so hopefully I will at least be able to remember that word. With any luck I will find more words that are familiar or are at least similar to words that I already know. Another thing that I have realized is that I am way better at translating a sentence from Spanish to English than I am at trying to make my own sentences. I am hoping that I will be able to getter better at that, and grow more confident actually speaking the language.
I plan on studying these new words as well as looking over the other ones that I have notes for throughout this next week and hopefully do more lessons on Duolingo. At some point I would like to try and get a list of numbers as well as listen to the alphabet song again, but right now I am more focused on writing more notes that I can use to study and hopefully memorize some useful phrases.

  1. That's awesome that you can translate sentences from Spanish to English. I think that is the first step of truly understanding a language. Learning to speak it is probably a lot more difficult, especially on your own. Have you asked Mrs. Reierson for any help? Sounds like you have come a long way!

  2. Very good, I tried to learn Spanish on doulingo but for me I didn't like it nearly as much. I'm glad it is useful though.
