Genius Hour 2.1
For this second genius hour project I have decided to learn how to fold origami projects. I ordered a box of origami paper this measures six inches by six inches. I had thought about getting some that were cut into smaller squares, but ultimately decided that I wanted something bigger to start my practicing with. The set that I bought contains 1,000 sheets of paper and there are 25 different colors included. For this first week I brought some pink colored paper to school and started actually trying to fold shapes. I started with folding a simple heart design, which I got the hang of pretty quickly during the period. I ended up making two origami hearts during the lass period before moving on to something that was a little more challenging. The one pictured was the better of the two that I folded, even though it is a little bit lopsided.
The second thing I ended up folding was a butterfly. The first attempt that I made definitely could not be called a butterfly, as I had run into trouble with one of the crucial folds. I tried to back track and fix this first attempt, but I could not get the fold to show up right. This first attempt ended up looking a bit like an overweight moth.
On the second attempt I paid closer attention to the fold that I had messed up with previously and this attempt turned out much better in my opinion.
I think that for future projects I will pay more attention to the folds that I am making as they compare to the directions that I follow. All in all, though, I am proud of what I was able to accomplish during this first week.

I think that origami would be a really cool hobby to pick up. Every time that I've tried origami, I found myself really enjoying it. There's just something about folding paper that makes you feel at ease. Paying close attention to each fold is a critical step in origami as you have already realized. Keep up the good work!
